Home Gap Analysis

What is  an ISO Gap Analysis

Do you have a management system in place but are unsure if it meets all the requirements of the relevant ISO standard? Are you wondering whether your system will pass a certification audit? Our experienced management consultants can help by conducting a Gap Analysis for you.

What is an ISO Gap Analysis?

A Gap Analysis is a structured assessment of your existing management system against the specific requirements of an ISO standard. A Gap Analysis is an assessment of your current system against the requirements of the standard. The gap analysis identifies areas where your system does not meet the requirements and is usually conducted as part of a process for assessing the readiness of your business’s system for certification. It is designed for businesses that have already developed a management system and want to evaluate whether they are ready for certification.

Is a Gap Analysis an Essential Step?

Unlike some consulting companies that consider a Gap Analysis an essential step, we offer this service only when it adds value to the client. We do not offer this to all clients, only to clients that believe they have a system in place. We start with a FREE initial evaluation—to determine whether your system is sufficiently developed and whether investing in a full Gap Analysis is worthwhile.

How Does the Free Initial Evaluation Help?

Before conducting a full Gap Analysis, we assess whether your current management system has enough structure in place to benefit from the process. This saves you time and money by ensuring that you only invest in a Gap Analysis if it is truly necessary.

If we find that your system is well-developed but needs adjustments, we will proceed with a full Gap Analysis. However, if there are significant gaps or too little in place, we will advise against moving forward with a Gap Analysis at this stage. Instead, we can guide you on what needs to be built before reassessing.

What Does a Gap Analysis Involve?

Our Gap Analysis process includes the following steps:

  1. Free Initial Evaluation:
We start with a complimentary review of your current management system to determine whether a full Gap Analysis is needed.
  2. Full System Assessment (If Applicable):
If your system is ready for further assessment, one of our experienced ISO consultants will conduct a detailed review of your policies, procedures, and processes against the clauses of the relevant ISO standard.
  3. Gap Analysis Report:
If a full assessment is conducted, we provide a Gap Analysis Report, which includes:

    • The requirements of the ISO standard
    • Areas where your business is compliant
    • Specific gaps where your system does not yet meet the standard
    • Recommended actions to address these gaps

Which ISO Standards Can We Assess?

We offer Gap Analysis services for a range of internationally recognised standards, including:

  • ISO 9001 Quality
  • ISO 45001 Safety
  • ISO 14001 Environment
  • HACCP

Next Steps After the Gap Analysis

Addressing the Gaps

If gaps are identified, we can assist in developing the necessary documentation, implementing process improvements, and providing training to ensure full compliance.

Internal Audit (If Ready for Certification)

If your management system meets all the standard’s requirements, an Internal Audit must be conducted before the official certification audit. ISO Global’s consultants can conduct this audit to ensure you are fully prepared. Read more about Internal Audits
