Glossary of Terms
Accreditation
Procedure by which an accreditation body formally recognizes that a business as compliant with the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard.
Audit
A planned, independent and documented assessment to determine whether your business quality management system (QMS) satisfies the requirements of the standard.
Certification
The Quality Management System of a company, location, or plant is certified for conformance with ISO 9001 after it has demonstrated such conformance through the audit process.
Certification audit
The first audit of the QMS system conducted by the certification body.
Certification body
A third party that assesses and certifies/registers the Quality Management System of Organizations with respect to the ISO 9001 standard.
Compliance / Conformance
In terms of ISO, conformance to the ISO 9001 standard; the state of meeting the requirements.
Continual improvement
An important aspect of the ISO 9001 standard is the principle of continual improvement, which is intended to ensure that an organization does not simply adopt a QMS for cosmetic purposes and thereby remain static, without commitment to improve its customer satisfaction.
Internal Audit
Is a process of critical review of the business? processes and its QMS conducted by staff members appointed by the organisation.
ISO
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from some 140 countries, one from each country. ISO is responsible for the development of ISO 9001.
ISO 9001 standard
Published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) the standard is a set of procedures that cover all key processes in the business, directed at achieving customer satisfaction and facilitates continual improvement.
Quality Management Representative
appointed by the management and has responsibility for the QMS from start to finish and has the designated authority of senior manager to get the job done.
Quality Management System (QMS)
Defined policies and procedures that provide a formal framework describing the way an organization conducts its core business.
